Spotlight on Quinn Gee

One of the biggest challenges that people face when considering therapy involves simply being able to access a mental health professional. Quinn Gee, a professional counselor from Memphis, Tennessee, is a woman on a mission. Her motto is “You don’t have to do this alone”quinngeeIn fact, Quinn's path towards counseling emerged from a desire to help the most isolated and hopeless among us.

I always wanted to help people and show them that they don’t have to walk through the hard parts of their lives alone.

She lives up to those words by serving people of color, women, and the LGBTQ community, the marginalized people who often fall through the cracks of our broken mental health care system.Quinn is conscious of the challenges that marginalized people face when considering therapy:

For marginalized persons it is especially difficult to find competent and comfortable services from therapists that look like them. I seek to be that person for as many people as possible. I am a specialized therapist in several areas, specifically gender and orientation, race-based trauma, women’s issues, and intersectionality.

Quinn goes above and beyond what is required of her to serve communities in need. She provides free and competent mental health treatment to transgender people, and her clinic also accepts donations from the public in order to provide free or reduced rates mental health treatment. So far, Quinn has personally been able to donate over 500 hours of free therapy since Oct 2015!quinngee2The mental health community is incredibly fortunate to have such a compassionate and generous soul working towards eliminating the stigma of mental health in marginalized communities. And her reward? "Knowing that I helped someone find peace in their lives in some sort of way."Want to hear more from Quinn Gee?
